our story
Where the sea has always led the way
Facing the foaming waters of the Vestfjord, in the heart of the Lofoten Islands, Kræmmervika has been a place of shelter and gathering for thousands of years. Long before it became a place to stay, it was a fishing village and trading post where people from all along the Norwegian coast came together.
Fishermen arrived in open wooden boats, merchants brought goods and stories from afar, and life here followed the powerful rhythm of the sea — intense, unpredictable, and deeply human.
The rorbuer of Kræmmervika were built as simple cabins for fishermen seeking rest between long days at sea. Over time, they became places of community, resilience, and shared experience.
Today, that spirit remains. Fishing is still part of daily life, fresh seafood is never far away, and the atmosphere is shaped by nature, history, and the people who pass through, whether for a night, a season, or a lifetime.
